Monthly coffee/tea event – is a one-hour event being hosted online by FinGeo. It brings together early career researchers and PhD students, across finance, geography, and the wider academic community. This is a unique opportunity for all attendees at different stages of their careers to engage with one another in an online supportive event, have an opportunity to ask career-related questions, and get answers in a friendly environment. The event will not be recorded, although a summary based on Q&A will be written and posted on FinGeo Blog page. This is a great way to familiarize ourselves with different career paths we might take.
Our first guest speaker is Karen Lai and the event takes place on 25th November 2021 from 13:00 – 14:00 GMT, access here.
Karen Lai is an Associate Professor at the Department of Geography, Durham University (UK). Her research interests include geographies of money and finance, market formation, service sectors, global city networks and financial centre development. Her recent project examines everyday financialisation through the knowledge networks of financial advisors and consumers. She is currently working on two projects regarding the global financial networks of investment banks and law firms, and how FinTech could be reshaping the roles of financial centres. She is on the Executive Committee of the Economic Geography Research Group of the Royal Geographical Society (with Institute of British Geographers), and journal editorial board member of Geoforum and Geography Compass (Economic section).
